“That experience helped me to realize to cherish every relationship, to cherish your responsibilities, to cherish your opportunity when you have it, because it’s not guaranteed tomorrow. You can be the hardest-working player, you can do things right, you can be a great person and all of those things—that does not guarantee that you will finish the way that you wrote your story or the way that you want it, desire it to finish.”
Vad Lee fell in love with football at a young age. He thought he knew how his life would pan out—winning the national championship, getting drafted into the NFL, becoming a star professional quarterback.
A foot injury during a game late in the season his senior year at James Madison University changed everything. Vad spent years bitter and angry at the sport he’d once adored, unable to so much as watch a game on TV.
But in this week’s episode, he tells us the remarkable story of what led him back to the game—and how he’s turned his setbacks into a far richer life full of faith, meaning, and mentorship.
